 The Spiritual Solution

The 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous is the only Solution for real Alcoholics.  Ask any A.A. Historian and they will tell you that the Steps is the only way our Founding Members used to get and STAY sober.  The Big Book was introduced to the World in 1939.  For the next decade and into the 1950's the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous was the only known Solution to achieve lasting Sobriety.  The Big Book was also the only tool to achieve the goal of working the 12 Steps of A.A.  When or if we become alcoholic we have a Solution it's the 12 Steps of A.A.  Most peoples perception of a Alcoholic is the unfortunate bum with liquor in a paperbag walking the streets, dead drunk.  As A.A. grew in numbers and power through the spreading of the Big Book the World started seeing a differnet picture of an alcoholic.  More and more people sobered up through the Big Book and 12 Steps of A.A. and that we now realize we alcoholic's are everywhere.  We come from all factions of society.  From Doctor's to lawyers, judges, blue collar workers, white collar workers, any race, creed or color.  Every Religion has alcoholics as members in there congregation.  The Big Book cleary explains on Pg 21 that the Alcoholic may or may not become a continous daily hard drinker.  But none the less he or she is a alcoholic.

Here is the Paragrah on Pg 21 -----

A.A. Big Book Pg 21

But what about the real alcoholic? He may start off as a moderate drinker; he may or may not become a continous hard drinker; but at some stage of his drinking career he begins to lose all control of his liquor consupmtion, once he starts to drink.

Surrender Steps 1, 2, 3

The Big Book teaches us that we can work the 1st three steps by ourselves if there is not a sponsor, spiritual advisor, priest, pastor, rabbi or a understanding person available.  We can read the Steps out loud and express our agreement to them alone if our circumstances warrant it.  We can say Yes out loud if we are sure there is no other way of staying sober.  We can do this alone.  We have to remember that we are never alone completely.  The Power greater than ourselves or our Higher Power and most of all God as we understand Him is always listening.
